JUST THE FACTS.  Of course, that is not what we are getting from trump.  This Snopes article covers the real truth concerning his more outrageous statements about COVID-19.

CRITICAL?  Did you know that the gun industry, including retailers, are a part of our nation’s critical infrastructure during the COVID-19 emergency?  That’s what trump decreed and now has in place.  Read this Snopes article about it.

In a somewhat related issue, trump extended his distancing guidelines until the end of April.  What many do not realize is that it is only a guideline.  Only the states have the authority to make it legally binding.

Did you know that the “stimulus” bill has yet another tax break for the 1%?  If republicans had their way, that is where all the money would go.

GOVERNMENT FUNDED CAMPAIGN.  That seems to be what trumpis running.  First, he sent out cards telling people fundamental ways to avoid COVID-19 with his name in what was by far the biggest print on the cards.  Of course, he didn’t personally send it out and the agency that did got no credit, but it was done at taxpayer expense.

Now, trump is messing with the checks that are to be sent to many who may or may not need support in these trying times.  He wants his signature on each check as if the check were from him and not paid by taxpayers.  This is definitely not the way the feds work.  Again, he is taking credit where it is not due and using it for his own personal branding, a campaign tactic.  Here is an article about it.

HOLY ASSHOLE.  Jerry Falwell, Jr., a staunch ally of trump and is the president of Liberty University, routinely downplays the impact of COVID-19 and falsely claims North Korea and China developed it as a bio weapon.  He also refused to shut down his private university.  Now there is a COVID-19 outbreak on campus.  Almost half of the students who returned from spring break are now leaving the campus on their own and may be spreading the problem to more in our nation.  Will he pay all the expenses of those he subjected to it?  Read more about it here.

ENVIRONMENTAL LAWN.  I don’t have one and chances are, neither do you.  I know one exception that reads this.  What makes up for a truly environmental and natural lawn?  Check out this CNN article.

VOTING HEALTHY.  It is not too early to think about this.  There is a good chance that the COVID-19 outbreak will not be over, either in reality or in the minds of many voters, by the time we hold elections in November.  How can we vote and remain healthy?  This CNN article goes into some of that and mentions that historically a pandemic greatly lowers voter turnout.  Low turnout plays right into trump’s hand.

I might add that one thing the Officers of Election, those people who help you through the voting process, should consider is wearing disposable gloves and change them very frequently throughout the day.  That is a cheap and easy way to help calm people’s fears.  Almost every position they hold handles things that the voters will handle.  Poll book operators often need to handle the voter’s ID.  Ballot officers handle ballots and folders.  Forms officer handles a host of things that the voters visiting that position handle.  Scanner officer often handles bits of paper or folders that will be handled by voters.  Then there are the “I Voted” stickers that voters love so much.  And, of course, closeness cannot be avoided.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?  The stimulus package comes in at well over $2 trillion dollars, but where does all of that go?  $560 billion goes to individuals, about $300 billion of which is in cash payments.  Large corporations get $500 billion and small businesses get $377 billion.  Since this is a health crisis, you would expect a large amount to go for that.  Public health gets only about $153 billion.  If you would like to see where the rest goes, plus a breakdown of all the categories, check out thisMarketWatch article.

THE TRIP JOKE.  This joke was told to a friend by an Episcopal priest:

Donald Trump goes on a fact-finding visit to Israel.  While he is on a tour of Jerusalem, he suffers a heart attack and dies. T he undertaker tells the American diplomats accompanying him, “You can have him shipped home for $50,000, or you can bury him here, in the Holy Land, for just $100.”

The American diplomats go into a corner to discuss for a few minutes.  They return with their answer to the undertaker and tell him they want Donald Trump shipped home.

The undertaker is puzzled and asks, “Why would you spend $50,000 to ship him home, when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would spend only $100?”

The American diplomats reply, “Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead.  We just can’t take the risk.”

DECEIVED?  The group Samaritan’s Purse set up a makeshift tent hospital of 68 beds in New York City’s Central Park.  The mayor praised them for it, but failed to mention that the group wants the volunteers, including all health care workers, to adhere to a statement of faith that is anti-LGBTQ.  The mayor says he expects the facility to adhere to the hospital’s policy against discrimination.  As of this writing, I don’t know how this will resolve.  This Gothamist column has more about it.

THE MESSAGE.  Several performers have put out videos of various sorts supporting aspects of keeping healthy during the current crises.  Here are a few with their videos for you to enjoy:

I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.  Some are silly, some are informative, some are simply enjoyable, and some are all of the above.  All are fun.

CORRUPTION – IT’S ALL IN THE FAMILY.  And the family name is trump.  It seems the new website he promised Americans that would direct them to the nearby testing sites is from a company connected to his son-in-law, Jared Kushner.  At the same time, he announced the coming web site (now in place), he downplayed Google with lies, his usual stock in trade.  Read more about it in this The Atlantic article.

RESISTING SOCIAL MEASURES.  Some states are resisting changes that could lessen the impact of COVID-19.  This Wired article gets into the reason why – greed.  It seems the states resisting what is needed are republican.  Are we surprised?

One of the states so leaning is Alabama where rural hospitals are closing.  This Snopes article tells why they close when they are needed so much.

FAUX NEWS.  As of this past Wednesday evening, 74 journalist academics and professional journalists had signed an open letter calling for Fox News to stop spreading “misinformation” about the COVID-19 pandemic.  I’m sure it will be ignored or scoffed.  Read about it in thisNewsweek article.

COVID-19 & VOTINGThis Yahoo News article discusses some of the thinking going into how people can vote in November.  Let me add that the “in-person early voting” option does not give much, if any protection since there probably would be large numbers of people voting early and you would meet with about the same number of people you would on election day.  However, the people managing the early voting process may set up in such a way that they are protected from the voters.  In which case, that does provide some added protection.  Mail is safer, but has its problems that we would not like, as the article indicates.

PANDUMBIC.  Some feel victims of COVID-19 should join into a class action lawsuit against Fox News.  This 3-minute video shows why.  The video makes a good case.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.  Women in France now have a code word to use in a pharmacy if they are suffering from domestic violence.  This is important since domestic violence is increasing with the lockdown there and here.  Pharmacies are one of the types of stores that remain open.  This CNN article covers it well.  If you are wondering, the code word is “mask 19”.  The US would do well to emulate this.
